Looking for a lift in your exercise regimen? A little Jukari Fit to Fly may just be the workout for you. The total-body workout created by Cirque du Soleil and Reebok uses a trapeze-like bar to give participants the sensation of flying while “strengthening and lengthening the body through cardio, strength, balance and core training,” according to the Reebok website. After debuting in Quebec in 2009, the fitness program has finally made its way west to Toronto’s Kingwest Fitness in Liberty Village. The workout program, which combines aerobics with light acrobatics, features a low level trapeze-inspired bar called the FlySet. Custom-designed to allow 360 degrees of movement, the suspended bar allows participants to twist, hang and swing throughout their hour-long workout. Lyn Heward, creative director of the Reebok-Cirque du Soleil program, says the class was designed to give women “the feeling that they are performing while they’re working... MORE
Winter is hardly a time to complain, but another opportunity for Canadians to play in the snow at the 2011 Canada Winter Games. The Games are being hosted in Halifax this year, bringing in great tourism and a variety of sports from alpine skiing to wheelchair basketball. With the large selection of games and competitions, it leaves no room for spectators to be unsatisfied. The Games have been going full speed ahead since Feb. 11, and will be continuing until Feb. 27. As of Feb. 18, Quebec is in the lead with 24 gold medals, 22 silvers, and 14 bronze medals, adding up to a staggering 60 medals already. Although Quebec is in the lead, there is no doubt in my mind that British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta will give the province a run for its money. They’ve racked up 35, 30 and 29 medals, respectively and we are still just a week into the Games. With many more events to go until the 27th, there is no telling which way the competition is... MORE
