Get excited. According to MTV.ca and Mike Myers, legitimate progress is being
made on a fourth installment to the Austin Powers legacy.
Myers originally commented on Austin Powers 4 in May of 2007, saying he had started to write a
script. Three years later, Hollywood and Myers have proven surprisingly dependable by Myers saying “things
are on track.”
He added: “It’s hard to keep a Stanley Cup team together and I’m very happy how insanely well it’s gone. Then
it gets hard to get everybody all together.”
Jay Roach, director for all three previous Austin Powers movies, has publicly said he’s on board for the
fourth movie. Although Myers may be calling more of the shots:
"I'd be very happy to do it in 7-D," he said. "I can't tell you exactly how it works. Actually, I left the
plans for it in a bar and somebody saw it. But it's very exciting."
It has now been eight years since Austin Powers in Goldmember came out. If your memory is shabby
then no worries, an update is below. If you haven’t seen the first three Austin Powers yet (shame!)
then below are SPOILERS.
***
When we last left Austin, it was after a big stand-off in Dr. Evil’s submarine lair. Austin’s father, Nigel,
had been kidnapped by 1975 Dutch disco king Goldmember in an attempt to distract Austin from Dr. Evil’s plans
to once again take the world hostage (by catalyzing global flooding).
During this time, Mini-Me became Mini-Austin because Dr. Evil’s biological son, Scott, had taken his father’s
affection. During the final standoff, Nigel reveals that Austin and Dr. Evil are actually brothers so they
reconcile. Meanwhile, Goldmember tries to activate the destruction process, but Dr. Evil (now “Dougie”)
reverses the polarity of the beam, electrocuting Goldmember and allowing him to be subdued.
Scott Evil, now living up to his name, leaves upset with plans of revenge — perhaps leaving us with our
starting point for Austin Powers 4.
It also shouldn’t go without mentioning that the classic Scottish character, Fat B*stard, lost hundreds of
pounds on the Subway diet.
The movie is still probably at least a couple years away (imdb.com says 2013) but, if you are any sort of fan, this is still
nothing but mind-racing excitement. Stay tuned!•
