Waterfront living in Fort Langley

Exclusive homes in Bedford Landing are as unique as they come

By Lifestyle Staff | September 2, 2010

Where else in Metro Vancouver can you buy a brand new, luxury home on the waterfront for just over $1 million?”

Yosh Kasahara, marketing manager for ParkLane Homes, asks a good question. The company that won the 2009 Consumer’s Choice Awards for Best New Home and Townhome Builder may very well be offering the most desirable properties in Metro Vancouver.

Bedford Landing, one of ParkLane’s flagship communities, is located in idyllic Fort Langley within walking distance of the historic town centre that is rich in amenities. The community is bordered to the north by the Bedford Channel, a calm stretch of river enjoyed by avid rowers and canoeists. Almost half of the community is comprised of naturalized parkland, walking trails, and parks for kids.  It’s an inspirational and tranquil segment of geography — with only 11 exclusive waterfront lots available starting mid-September. Called the Headwater home series, these luxury three-bedroom homes are located on the only true waterfront lots in Bedford Landing. Spacious inside and out, the homes start at 2,500 square feet on lots as big as 9,900 square feet.  Featuring three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, a den and a loft, these homes are made for comfortable, upscale living.

The pinnacle for an already-celebrated community, the Headwater homes were inspired by a blend of Craftsman, Cape Cod and Colonial-style architecture. Thoughtful exterior detailing is true to the early-20th-century architecture that defines Bedford Landing. Simultaneously, they present an intricate balance of individuality that’s richly varied from home to home, giving the community an aura of true timelessness. ParkLane is diligent in applying varying landscaping schemes, home facades, floor plans and exterior treatments to ensure that the community feels as if it was built out over decades, not years.

Inside the homes, high-end interior finishes include granite countertops, shaker-style wood cabinetry, hand-set tile flooring in all bathrooms and stainless steel appliances. Designed by Grant Miller, ParkLane’s senior designer, these home designs are highly valued for their efficient and sensible use of space. For example, the Lot 4 Headwater show home has an open-floor plan that “just makes sense for the way that people want to live today,” says Kasahara. “Visitors to the show home frequently comment on how much bigger the homes feel than what they would expect based on the square footage.”

In this stream of pragmatism, Headwater offers a purchaser the ability to upgrade to a better location without sacrificing the space of their current home. Your new Headwater home would require relatively little time on maintenance and upkeep, while still feeling dazzling and spacious. Outdoor living spaces are ample — the generous front porch invites you to enjoy your morning coffee after a walk to Wendel’s Café and Bookstore in Fort Langley. The expansive backyard patio is perfect for a summer BBQ and sunset over the Bedford Channel.

Meals and teatimes needn’t go unappreciated indoors, though; sunny breakfast nooks invite casual family gatherings while the dining room prompts thoughts of Sunday brunch. And if it is indeed Sunday and you’re finding some time on your hands, there’s a three-car garage featuring a workshop space just begging to be used.
Bedford Landing’s location is just as appealing. In Fort Langley, boutique shopping, restaurants and other locally owned and operated businesses are perfect for errands or just passing the time. You can walk there via the Fort-to-Fort trail, which meanders all along the river’s edge. Parks and schools are also nearby, creating a versatility that fills the needs of any size of family. If that wasn’t enough, ParkLane has recently added a Rowing Centre that brings unprecedented convenience to active and passive recreation.

The strength of the neighbourhood is an important facet for ParkLane Homes. “Our buyers are not only concerned with finding the perfect home for their families, but also with making the right investment,” Kasahara explains. “And they want a high-quality home in an established neighbourhood in order to protect the investment they are making in their futures.”

So, if you see a new home in your future, consider settling down at Bedford Landing. Headwater offers the complete balance of comfort, expanse, community and natural beauty. Headwater homes will be value priced from $1.2 million. •
