The blue Drava river runs through the
evergreen Slovenske Gorice hills and ice-tipped Kozjak and Pohorje mountain ranges to the red-roofed
Slovenian city of Maribor. Follow the riverbank further into bustling city parks, 12th-century architectural
survivors, and vibrant galleries and theatres. If all this isn’t reason enough to visit, Maribor has also
been named the European Capital of Culture for 2012, alongside Guimarães in Portugal. A year-long program of
exhibits and events will highlight the city’s population, flavours and sounds. Partake in celebrations
infused with Cista Energija! (That’s Pure Energy, by the way.)
