Bayside Luxury

A world of comfort at the Mandarin Hotel in Miami

By Lifestyle Staff | August 31, 2010

In the heart of sunny South Florida, on the prestigious Brickell Key, lies an award-winning blend of tropical paradise and modern chic. At Mandarin Oriental, Miami, guests have the opportunity to explore a world of luxury and experience a taste of serenity in the beautiful decor and the staff’s dedication to a peaceful, rejuvenating stay.

Located within walking distance of trendy Mary Brickell Village, guests of Mandarin Oriental, Miami are offered an eclectic mix of upscale dining, shopping and entertainment options while being minutes from South Beach, Miami International Airport and Coconut Grove.

Executives conducting business in South Florida and vacationers in search of a fashionable Miami retreat favour Mandarin Oriental, which features 326 elegant guest rooms offering dramatic views of the bay and skyline. The amenities offered here are as unique as the hotel’s chic decor, and include two restaurants, a cocktail lounge and martini bar, an award-winning tri-level spa, the Oasis Beach Club, Shanghai Tang — their luxury boutique — and extensive meeting and business facilities.

To keep up with the needs of their clientele, hotel management met with the original designer to celebrate the property’s 10th anniversary by upping the luxe factor with an extensive refurbishment.

“This significant investment in Mandarin Oriental, Miami will ensure that the hotel continues to be at the forefront of luxury hospitality in South Florida,” says general manager Jorge Gonzalez. “It’s a perfect way to celebrate our 10 years in Miami and we look forward to welcoming guests to enjoy this milestone with us.”
Included in the upgrades was a redesign of the hotel’s 295 guest rooms, chic new furniture for the private beach, as well as an updated presidential suite to satisfy the needs of any executive on a working retreat. Of course, the original feel of the hotel remains completely intact.

“We had to look at the property to see where we were, and decided what needed to be enhanced,” explains communications director Alexandra Wensley. “We’re always looking to remain ahead.”

Acclaimed Atlanta-based designer Jan Clausen refurbished the guest rooms, which feature the latest in audio-visual equipment subtly concealed by the understated elegance of the Asian-influenced decor. The latter includes accents such as lantern-inspired light fixtures and Anichini bed linens.

“We find our guests often want to experience the culture while in Miami,” explains Wensley.

Guests are immersed twofold in culture upon their arrival to Mandarin Oriental. While the hotel’s decor draws decidedly from its namesake, the hotel also features Miami’s lively Latin community. For example, the award-winning spa features a dance class, part of the hotel’s “Latin Rhythms” package, that invites guests to samba
their way to a healthier physique.

The purpose of the package, says Wensley, is to bring out a more Latin feel of Miami for visitors.  Beginning with a hot stone massage and exfoliation treatment, guests are then whisked away to the hour-long samba class, followed with a cool down while lounging poolside with mojito in hand.

Another popular treatment is the hotel’s signature spa therapy, which includes a consultation with one of the spa’s therapists, who prescribes treatments based on the client’s needs.  This highly personalized treatment lasts for two hours, and leaves guests feeling refreshed and revitalized. •

Guests interested in visiting Mandarin Oriental in Miami have the option of indulging in a special anniversary package, aptly called Miami’s Top 10. The offer is valid until December 2010; for more information go to mandarinoriental.com/miami.
