Unleash your inner
animal lover this fall. Featuring everything from exotic parrots to miniature ponies and fluffy rabbits, the
Red Deer Pet Expo provides ample entertainment for every type of animal enthusiast.
“Everyone who comes to this event is an animal lover, and this is a great opportunity to interact with many
different animals,” says Augusta Reinich, assistant show producer.
The event drew in roughly 9,000 people in its first year, and was declared an absolute success by all who
attended.
The show owes its popularity to the variety of educational and entertaining programs, including the favourite
“Doggie Demo Area.” Here, our canine friends are tested on their agility and herding abilities and are
challenged to leap and twist in the flyball demonstration. Along with providing hours of fun, the Doggie Demo
also offers exercise and bonding ideas to dog owners looking for new activities to share with their best
friends.
The expo features a touch of the exotic as well. “The Edmonton Pet Parrot Association will be on hand with a
number of different breeds of birds and will be there to give the public a good understanding of what type of
care birds need,” says Reinich. “There will also be a variety of reptiles on hand, and again, experts will be
available to talk about what type of care each breed needs and what to think about before getting one.”
Potential pet owners looking to educate themselves on the animals they are interested in purchasing can take
full advantage of the staff at the expo. There are countless opportunities to interact with the different
species of animals at the show, and experts are more than willing to share their knowledge on everything from
breed information to grooming and exercise. •
