All students are not alike. Some students find it difficult to deal with the conventional methods of learning. The learning disability present in such students makes it difficult to achieve personal academic goals. Many students face challenges in regular school settings, where some even fail because of their inability to grasp new information.
Arrowsmith is a privately owned, non-denominational and co-educational school which aims at helping students with learning difficulties. With the help of a proprietary neuroscientific program, the school helps students improve their cognitive capabilities.
The school offers full-time, three to four year programs to strengthen the ability to understand, in hopes of enabling students to return to regular schools. In addition to the full-time program, part-time programs are also available. Part-time programs include a Saturday program for students who have difficulty with writing. Each student enrolling at Arrowsmith undergoes assessment both prior to admission and at the end of the school year. The assessment prior to admission helps in identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the student, according to which the individualized programs are designed. The assessment at the end of the year aids in estimating the student’s progress throughout the year and in modifying the program for the following year.
The full-time program includes six daily periods of cognitive exercises and two periods of academics. The various cognitive exercises coupled with the guidance, support and encouragement of the teachers help the students learn and develop new social skills and self-confidence.
The school's academic program includes classes in English and Mathematics, which are designed with the needs and abilities of the students in mind. Gaining knowledge in English and Mathematics helps students acquire the necessary attributes to excel in academics, such as thinking, conceptual understanding, problem solving, reasoning and retaining what has been learnt. Improvement in these two subjects facilitates learning in all other subjects, which students can use in their future studies. The program involves a routine learning process, which is devised to be motivating as well as meet the specific needs of the students. To encourage discipline and responsibility, students are given homework to help them in assessing and reinforcing newly learnt information.
The academic teachers work in coordination with the cognitive teachers to ensure that the students have a balanced workload. As a result, the program is modified accordingly in a timely manner to help students achieve the best of their capabilities.
Over the past three decades, students from the age of six years to those in their young adult years, with average or above average intelligence, have gained a lot from these programs.
Arrowsmith organizes monthly open houses for parents and students. In order to learn more about the school and the programs offered, those who attend the open house can take a tour of the campus to judge the suitability of the program for their children.•
