Halifax Shopping Cart

It can’t be denied: Halifax is the centre of Atlantic shopping extraordinaire. Its trendy home decor shops, sweet candy stores and fab clothing boutiques rival those of any major Canadian city.

1. Biscuit General Store CBC’s Steven and Chris gave Biscuit their stamp of approval on their “What’s In Store” segment. Owner Wendy Freedman calls her business “a modern-day department store” and “the downtown mall alternative.” The boutique style shop started with clothing and has expanded to accessories, jewelry and beauty products. 1661 Argyle St., 902-425-5436, biscuitgeneralstore.com

2. KAS Footwear Get your designer footwear fix at KAS (Kick Ass Shoes). For this small shoe boutique, product knowledge is king. Ask any of the well-informed staff about their Marc Jacobs, Stuart Weitzman and Cole Haan selections. 5475 Spring Garden Rd., 902-444-7527

3. Sweet Jane’s Let’s face it ladies, clothes shopping is a tiring sport! (Let’s face it gents — you know that better than we do.) Indulge yourself with a New York-style cupcake or some retro candy. 5431 Doyle St., 877-333-9055, sweetjanes.com

4. Hibiscus With fashion-forward options ranging in price from $49 to $300, Hibiscus is the place where Haligonian fashionistas can splurge often without breaking the bank. 5407 Spring Garden Rd., 902-422-5204, hibiscusboutique.com

5. The Vault Consistently bringing in an amazing selection of international designers, the Vault’s buyers can’t seem to go wrong! The collections are based on current fashion trends without being overly trendy, and classically beautiful without being stale. Check out pieces by Holly Yashi and La Vie Parisienne — two of our favourites. 5640 Spring Garden Road, 902-425-3624; 7001 Mumford Rd., Unit 152, 902-453-3624 (not shown), thevaultjewelry.ca
